  • History of San Diego Spaniel Rescue:

In 2002 our founder, Peggy Mundell, lost her Cocker Mix, Kodak. Kodak was her heart dog, her one special little fur-kid. That year, Peggy learned about rescue groups when she started volunteering for English Springer Rescue America. It wasn't long after that when she learned that there was no Cocker Rescue in San Diego County. The nearest one, Cocker Rescue of Temecula Valley, had closed it's doors in 2001. Peggy grew up with a Westie and a Cocker, and couldn't bear that this great breed wasn't represented. In September 2002 Sophie was pulled from the shelter and San Diego Spaniel Rescue was unofficially begun.

Fast forward to 2008 and SDSR has a governing Board of Directors, a strong volunteer network, and has helped more than 300 dogs to better lives. We are a respected member of the local rescue community and have expanded to help the Cockers of Orange County as well. We are a registered California non-profit and an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) (this means your donations are tax deductible!). Our hope is to continue for many years down the road in support of the needy Cocker Spaniels in our community.

    Board of Directors 2007:

    Founder/Director/President:
    Peggy Mundell
    Vice-President: Sue Bowen
    Treasurer: Eileen Walker
    Secretary: Paula Flesher

    Directors:
Patty McNeeley, Robin Russell-Gall, Deann Trebbe

    Volunteers:

All volunteers with SDSR, including the Board of Directors, are not paid for their services. We do what we do because we love the breed and know that together we can make a difference - not only in the lives of the dogs in our care, but in the lives of the people we adopt to. Our volunteers are our heart and soul and make all things possible in our organization. They brainstorm, create, solve, love, and contribute all that they can to help San Diego Spaniel Rescue run smoothly.

If you would like to volunteer with us, please
send us an email letting us know your areas of interest. If you have a skill, a talent or a desire to help, you will be a valuable asset!
